Exeter Open Studios at Gallery 36

We were delighted that so many people visited Gallery 36 throughout the weekend of Exeter Open Studios from 4-6 November. The constantly evolving garden, with new sculptures, was a great attraction in the lovely autumn sunshine. A number of people who visited on Friday or Saturday enjoyed it so much that they came back on Sunday, including many of our neighbours who commented that although they had walked past the Gallery on many occasions they had never been inside. So do come and visit us - it's helpful if you can telephone first on 01392 256206 just to make sure that we're in.

School Visit

We had a very enjoyable visit from three classes of Wynstream Primary School to the sculpture garden who had a "scuplture week" and then a week-long visit from Stoke Hill Infant School children who demonstrated enormous enthusiasm and will shortly be opening their own sculpture garden which Veronica will attend and cut the tape!

Time To See

Time to See, an exhibition at Gallery 36 of work by those who, now retired, have both time to see and time to paint what they see, which provided a very successful display of work. It was fun and many interested and interesting people came to see it! Also the sculpture garden, more amazing and lush than ever, was and still is open by a phone call appointment as are the 2 galleries showing sculpture, paintings, prints and freehand decorated useful pottery.

Adjusting the Contrast

We were fully booked for the "quirky cabaret on love and life" that took place here at the Gallery on 28 May. The music, the poetry and the picnic were a great success and it was such a fun evening that we hope to arrange something similar in the autumn.

Dinner with Krishnamurti 14 May

On 14 May a group of people were drawn together at Gallery 36 by their interest in the philosophies of Krishnamurti which resulted in an extremely pleasant evening and delicious food cooked by Charlotte Lampard of Charlotte's Kitchen at the Yearlstone Vineyard, Bickleigh. We cannot resist quoting this lovely appreciation from someone who attended: "Just to say a big thank you for the very interesting evening on Saturday. You gave us all such a warm, friendly and inclusive welcome. I did so enjoy the gathering of lovely people, all interested in Krishnamurti - his life and ideas, as well as the delicious meal and coming to see Gallery 36 too."

Play to the Moon

More than 60 people attended this popular and unusual event on Saturday 12 March. The amazing projections of the moonscape complemented the wonderful singing and music of Philip and Vaughan as they "Played to the Moon" in the intimate atmosphere of the Gallery 36 studio. Unfortunately because of the limited space we had to turn a few people away but we hope to see you again at a future event (next one is on 14 May).

Open Mind

in association with Age Concern Exeter, an intriguing exhibition by three artists as part of a garden and gallery event with a deliciously stocked cafe from willing workers at Age Concern, guitar by Dave Wood and films by Steve Milton. Nick Jones drawings take inspiration from the misericord carvings in Exeter Cathedral. Derek Guswell is a self-taught artist, creating many of his watercolour landscapes on the rounds during his four decades as a SWEB engineer. Margaret Hammond, an art tutor for Age Concern, displays her passion for Italian landscape painting developed while living in Bologne. Each of these artists is a loyal Age Concern supporter. Also view the permanent collection of garden sculptures, pottery and paintings by Veronica Gosling.
